Technical question here, What makes a SLR Mike cable go microphonic?
I have several older Mike leads where the cable itself seems sound good connections etc. A Cable Tester says its OK but the Cable seems to pick up sound and crackles like crazy if its touched or moved.
The wire(s) inside the cable have deteriorated. It seems to me that they are intermittently separating and/ or shorting, causing the sounds you hear. Time to buy some new ones.
To check cables for intermittent problems a tester like this is handy.
