How do I install a new network adapter in my HP Pavilion?
I have an HP Pavilion a1130n and was told it needed a new network adapter. I went to Best Buy and bought a D-Link DFE-530TX+ adapter and started to put it in. I opened up the case and found out it doesn't have an adapter like what I bought. It just has a little silver cube which is fastened directly to the board. It looks like it will fit in one of the available slots but, will there be a conflict with the existing plug-in? And what do I do with the (2) cables attached to the new adapter? I don't think they need to plugged in according to what I've read. Thanks, Mike.
Sorry, there's only (1) cable.
All you need to do is pick an empty PCI slot and plug the 530TX into the slot. It will show as a second LAN adapter on your system. You can disable the onboard if it isn't working but you don't have too nor need to.
most of Windows will just load the new adapter when you boot after the installation, if not you will need to add the driver.
The cable (small internal one) is for WOL (wake on lan) and unless you need to use that you do not need to install the cable.
