Dell Inspiron 1501 gets hot very fast?
Hello, My laptop has been getting hot a whole lot faster than normal lately. Here are the specs:
Name of Computer: Dell Inspiron 1501
Processor: AMD 64 Athlon X2 TK-55 Dual core 1.8GHZ
OS: Vista Home Prem. & Ubuntu 8.10
RAM: 2GB DDR2 (I think...)
Video card: ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 (I think not sure)
HDD: 80 GB (not sure cause of how I have it partitioned) Internal and a supposedly 500GB external HDD
Please help me if you can!
I also tried using compressed air... I didn't open the laptop up though
Use canned air to clean out the vents. Ideally you would take the laptop apart because there is an outside chance you could actually blow the air back into the heatsink and compact it causing the problem to worsen if you blow the air from outside the laptop. Also be careful not to blow the air into the fan itself. The bearings can fail if the fan is spun too fast by the air. Also make sure when you are using the laptop that there is plenty of room underneath to allow proper airflow. Other potential causes of overheating could be increased demand on video card or hard drive issues.
